Pregnancy & Nursing (Lactation) – How Do I Feed My Female Dog Correctly?

Pregnancy and the subsequent rearing of the puppies are absolute peak performances for your female dog's body. During this time, her nutrient and energy needs change dramatically!

Pregnancy (from week 5):
In the first few weeks, her needs barely change. From the 5th week of pregnancy onward, however, her energy and protein needs rise enormously, as the puppies are now growing rapidly in the womb. The food volume needs to be increased step by step. Since the space in the belly becomes smaller as the puppies grow, you should now divide the daily ration into 3 to 4 small meals.

Lactation (nursing period):
Once the puppies are born and nursing, your female dog's energy needs can rise to 2 to 4 times (!) her normal requirement. She now needs a large amount of energy, high-quality protein and calcium.
